I have really enjoyed this series from Marie Hall - the characters were strong, there was some mystery involved, and there was a lot of humor. This story fell far from what I was expecting. Noella seemed a strong, daring woman at first - she was trying to steal from Nick after all. But soon, she was a weeping, cringing mess. I was glad that she finally stood up to Nick, but it took so long for her to speak her mind and make him listen! I really never liked Nick at all. As another reviewer said, he was overly harsh, selfish, impatient and NEVER let Noella have her say. He punished her so cruelly after a train robbery gone awry, and never let her explain why she moved from a place of safety. Same thing after an incident in the barn that wasn't entirely her fault. He leaves her in Willow Springs for 3 weeks without even coming to enquire about her! The other men from previous stories knew more about Noella than her own husband! There just wasn't the chemistry I had hoped for (Chemistry is different from sex, of which there was a lot!) I had hoped at one point, that Noella would move back into town and make a go of selling her paintings. She didn't need Nick and he didn't deserve her.Once again, I loved Storm - she took matters into her own hands to make sure that Noella had the tools she needed to survive. It was great to see the support from Autumn and their husbands as well. I felt like there was so much potential, but it fell flat. We never get to read about Noella's thoughts and actions regarding helping Nick save the ranch - but are only told it second hand through Chase Storm. Likewise, Noella never gets a chance to explain to Nick about her father. Too much left undone or unsaid - including apologies from Nick for his harshness! Hoping the next story gets back to more humor and more chemistry between the couple.
